Boycott Pro-Am

Wow, this is like a bad sitcom. Just when you thought we were rid of Butterworth that SOB comes back like a bad rash. It seems that Pro-Scam Cycling events is trying to resurrect a few events this season. If you take a closer look at the event registrations on BikeReg, you'll notice a few things:

1)Prereg only -- i.e., guaranteed cash in hand for Mr. Butterworth. Scumbag move.
2)Categories -- or should I say lack there of. No 1/2/3, no 3/4??
3)Prize money -- or again, I should say lack there of. After paying $27 to race, you'll get your chance to earn a trophy, a medal, or a 'result'. What a flaming bag of doosh.
4)Distances -- are all listed in km, so as to make them seem longer than they really are. Its amazing how much thought this loser puts into trying to get over on people.
5)Officials/staff category -- at least he's not charging them.

If you were dumb enough to preregister for the entire series, you *may* qualify for free entry...but that's not given and you'll have to email the promoter to find out. He's even put in a request to the PCA for help, and asking for everyone to throw some sponsorship coin his way.

Has he lost his mind? Please, this is a wake-up call people: BOYCOTT PRO-AM EVENTS FOREVER!! David Butterwoth is a money-hungry scumbag who wants nothing more to make some money and could care less about who he screws over, be it Rich Ruoff and his family, the local racing scene, and/or every racer who planned on doing his events this year before he abruptly pulled the plug.

DO NOT SUPPORT THIS GUY. Burt Hoovis makes some great points here, i.e. that he's notorious for cancelling events or shortening them, etc. If you prereg you are just giving your money away to him. Do not support Butterworth, Pro-Am, or any of these events. He's clearly just trying to make some quick money to cover some of his losses. We have the power to send a clear message to Butterworth -- we don't want him around any more. I don't care how hard-up to do a race I am, I will not support this DB (not as though he's offering a category I can race anyway). Do the right thing, boycott Pro-Am Cycling events.

I can proudly say that I have not done a Butternutz race in years, probably since 2004 or 5.

And for RR, myself and all my teamates, all 5 of them did not do any events this year. or many others for that matter.

I was going to do Christiana. Not because I really wanted to, but with no Toona and Owasco, it was my only choice. And it's 40 minutes from my house.

Thank you for posting on this. I see lots of junior cycling parents at the track and will be sure to spread the word.

His "new" races have goofy junior categories which don't even qualify for LAJORS anyhow. He did that last year at a few races and it stunk, so we stopped attending those.

That's a new one to me. I don't think I've ever seen a skill-based event without higher categories before.

No USAC permit yet either.

No, I wouldn't be sending pre-reg money either.
